RF Government approves plan for construction of three ferries for a link with Kaliningrad Region

19.06.2017

RF Government says it has approved a plan for ensuring transport accessibility of the Kaliningrad Region focused on the development of the ferry service. In particular, the plan foresees the construction of three railway ferries for operation on the Ust-Luga – Baltijsk line. That will let take over the bulk of the Kaliningrad Region’s cargo flow which is currently running via the territory of Belarus and Lithuania.

Most of cargoes needed for the population of the Kaliningrad Region are delivered by railway transport. Ust-Luga – Baltijsk ferry line is an alternative where two obsolete ferries are deployed today.

The ferries are to be built in 2017–2020. The construction is to be financed by the federal budget and by the borrowed funds.
